St. Clair County Democrat, September 22, 1927.
Jacob Baumgarden was born on March 10, 1813, and he passed from this life September 18, 1927, at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 8 days.
Mr. Baumgarden was married three times, his wife all preceding him in death. On March 27, 1876, he was married to Julia Mildred Hamby, and to this union on child, James Silas was born. On April 1, 1877.
Mr. Baumgarden then married Sevilor Walker, and to this union five boys and three girls were born of whom four boys are living.
Om May 12, 1892, Mr. Baumgarden married to Caroline Witt; to this union one child was born.
Mr. Baumgarden had been in poor health for several years, but had only been bedfast for about five weeks. His five living children were with him at the time of his death, and everything that loving hands and medical aid could do was done for him; but at 9:15 o'clock on Sunday evening the Master said "Come," and he very quietly and peacefully answered this summons.
At an early age he was converted and united with the Macedonia Baptist Church. He was a good husband and father, a good neighbor, and a true Christian. He will be sadly missed, not only by his five children, but by 22 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
As we think of his life and of his very peaceful passing we are reminded of Paul's words when he said "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me in the day." Funeral services were held at the King's Prairie & then placed in the King's Prairie Cemetery
