BECHKY, STAN

Stan Bechky, warm-hearted, witty and loved by all, passed away Oct. 11, 2006. Born Nov. 21, 1933, he grew up in Los Angeles, and graduated from UCLA with a degree in political science.

Stan then went on to serve as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned to Los Angeles to marry and raise his family while working in the furniture industry for 35 years.

He was preceded in death by former wife, Pat, with whom he has two daughters, Paula (Stuart) Kowarsky of Orange County, Calif., and Ilyne Bechky of Palmdale, Calif.

Stan is survived by his loving wife, of 14 years, Joan Bechky of Las Vegas; stepchildren, Karen (Bob) Bruning of Northridge, Calif., Amy (Curt) Powley of Saugus, Calif., Mark (Anna) DeFrew of Las Vegas, Brian DeFrew of Los Angeles, and Laura DeFrew of San Diego. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Perry Waldman, Rachel Kowarsky, Candice-Nicole Bruning, Daniel Powley, and Erin Powley.

Stan moved to Las Vegas permanently in 1992 and would soon retire from the furniture insdustry and later embarked on his second career as a cab driver for Deluxe Cab. Being the "people person" he was, he thoroughly enjoyed his second career. As his son-in-law, Curt stated, he was "One of A Kind."

The funeral will be at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan, Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be sent to the American Heart Association.
