Obituary from Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) | 20 June 2009:
Lyman Ball Sr., 82, of Pocatello, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at a local care center.
He was born May 8, 1927. He spent his formative years in Ammon and Idaho Falls before moving to Great Falls, Montana, for 15 years. He also lived in Long Beach, California, for 12 years before returning to Idaho in 1969 and moving to Pocatello.
He married his high school sweetheart April 27, 1943, in Dillon, Montana. Their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple in 1960. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
Lyman's early employment was in farming and then with Montana Power. He later worked for Southern California Edison and owned apartments while in California. Later, he owned KOA in Pocatello and leased Bob's Palace in American Falls. He retired from the LDS church as a custodial supervisor.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings, including as bishopric counselor, high counselor, branch president and full-time missionary in Bishop, California. Lyman enjoyed fishing and teaching his grandkids how to fish, hunt, ski and camp and to take road trips. He loved basketball and was a Utah Jazz fan. He enjoyed music and was a square dancer. Lyman took pride in his yard and it was always immaculate. He also enjoyed restoring a Model A and driving in parades. Lyman also enjoyed putting puzzles together, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judith Ball; grandson, Derek Herendeen; and grandson, Nathan Ball. He is survived by his wife, Afton Ball; children, Lyman (Nancy) Ball Jr. of Star, Idaho, Linda (Joseph) Young of Murray, Utah, and John (Diane) Ball of Ammon, Idaho; siblings, Richard (Bonnie) Ball of Bloomington, Utah, Emmalyn (Robert) Degen of Emmett, Idaho, Donetta Elliot of San Antonio, Texas, and Lela Woffinden of Tracy, California; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 22, at the LDS Princeton 6th Ward Building, 42 Princeton Ave. in Pocatello.
