2nd wife of:
Ledford E. Blankenship

Daughter of:
William Sexton &
Connie (Barron) Sexton (later Lay)

Her maiden name was originally given to me as Lay many years ago, before I found out she was born a Sexton (not sure of the source), but this was likely because Della's father William Sexton died when Della was only about 6 years old and her mother re-married to a Lay.

From the LaFollette Press, March 21 or 22, 1995:

Della Blankenship, 92, of Wartburg, Tn. died Monday, March 20. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by parents, William and Connie Sexton and husband, Ledford Blankenship. She is survived by niece, Grace Terry and several othe nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 23 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Martin Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Price officiating. Interment will follow in Stanfield Cemetery.

In the book Cemeteries & Tombstone Inscriptions from Campbell Co, TN, Vol. IV by Paula Gammell & Edith W. Hutton, published in 1989, Della's husband Ledford is listed as "L.E. Blankenship" and he was stated to have a "hand carved" stone. His grave is recorded as being in the vicinity of Arvid Cloyd Bowman, Connie Lay, Wimer Lay and Tempy Lay, but a search of that area in the Fall of 2010 could find no marker for either Ledford or his 2nd wife Della (who was listed in her obituary in 1995 as being buried in this cemetery as well, presumably next to Ledford).

UPDATE: in April 2015 a photo was uploaded here on FindAGrave showing a family headstone for Connie (Barron) Sexton Lay and members of her family, including Della and Ledford. Not sure how old this stone is, but it appears to be somewhat recent.
