Funeral Arrangements Will Not Be Made Until His Soldier Son Arrives
The ranks of Hecker Post, G.A.R. lost another faithful member when on Friday morning Frank Schamoni of 508 East Garfield (4th) street answered the final roll call and passed to his reward.
Mr. Schamoni was born in Germany on March 5th, 1843, being 70 years old on his last birthday. He came to America in his youth and fought for the Union during the Civil War in Co. K of the 51st Missouri.
After the war had ended he married, his wife dying on June 5th, 1917.
Mr. Schamoni was an expert wood worker by trade and before his retirement some years ago was an employee of the Harrison Machine Works for many years.
He is survived by the following children: Fred, Arthur, Estelle, Anna, Irna, Mrs. Louis Winter, Mrs. A. Arnold of Belleville, Mrs. W. Coogan of St. Louis, Frank of East St. Louis and George at Camp Dix, N.J. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. T. B Bouckmann of East St. Louis. Two of his sons, Arthur and Fred are members of the Jackson Street Fire Department.
