Fletcher Jones passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the V.A. Hospital in Lexington, being 77 years of age. He was born on February 4, 1932 in Jackson County, KY to Manford & Ollie Mae (Carpenter) Jones. He had four sisters- (half sister) Uretha Turner of Irvine, KY, Vera (Phil) Hartman, Edna (Luther) Johnson & Sue Ellen Jones all of Richmond, IN and one brother- Kenneth Jones also of Richmond, IN.

Fletcher was united in 1952 to Nina Lou (Berry) Jones and to this union were born six children- Shereta (Lonzo) Cain of Georgetown, KY, Alan (Nancy) Jones of West Harrison, IN, Darliss (Gary) Wert of Brookville, IN, Jerry (Chaunte) Jones and Calvin Jones all of West Harrison, IN & Colleen (Scott) Owen of Aurora, Colorado. He was blessed with twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Fletcher was also preceded in death by his sister- Edna and by his brother- Kenneth.

After grade school he attended Annville Institute. He helped his father deliver the U.S. Mail, then went on to serve in the United States Navy. He resided in West Harrison, IN where he was an employee at the Pillsbury Co. in Hamilton, OH for eighteen years. He then became self employed with his own business Jones & Sons Logging, when he retired.

Fletcher was a lifetime member of the American Coon Hunters Assoc. where he attended the St. Jude's Cancer benefit yearly for thirty-seven years. He loved to hunt, fish, garden and attend festivals of Bluegrass, Country & Gospel singings. But most of all he loved relaxing with friends and family to share a meal or a story from the past.


Funeral service was held 11:00 AM Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Lakes Funeral Home with Bro. Leonard Wilder & Bro. Hansel Hobbs officiating. Burial followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael, Mark, Marty & Mickey Cain, Casey Jones & Jeremy Hubbard. Honorary pallbearers were Brandy, Sharee & Angie Jones, Sheila, Taylor & Autumn Wert & Jodi Gulley. Graveside military services were conducted by the local D.A.V. Chapter #165 by the following members...Elmer Brewer, Earl Fee, Bobby Lakes, Edsel Welch, David Gray, Shane Morris, B.J. McKinney, John Robinson, Donald Harrison, Earl Coffey, Pam Barrett, Bill Yount & Roy Scalf.
