Asa was the son of Benjamin Franklin Borders and Jane A McCoy. He married Emma M. Wagner on August 6, 1879 in Sac Co, IA. They were the adoptive parents of Agnes May Hay #15639870 (1876-1943, Albert Franklin Prine) and Grace B (1888, Floyd Dreher).

Scranton Journal - Thursday, May 12th, 1938 - Asa Borders was born to Jane and Benjamin Borders near Lake City in Calhoun county, IA on May 10, 1856 and passed away at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 29 days at the home of Mrs Floyd Dreher near Ankeny.

He grew to manhood at his birth place and married Margaret Emma Wagner on August 6, 1879 to which union a son, who died in infancy was born on Feb 3, 1889. Except for a few years spent in Oklahoma, his entire life was lived in Calhoun and Green counties.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Mrs Emma Borders, his two adopted daughters Mrs Floyd Dreher of Ankeny and Mrs A.F. Prine of Lake View; four brothers: Perry Alonzo of Scranton; Frank of Brainard, MN; Matthew and Vestal both of Canada; a sister, Mrs Ella Basler of Yetter.

Jefferson Bee - May 10, 1938 - Asa Borders, 81, well known Scranton man, died Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Floyd Dreher, in Ankeny. The body was brought to the Huffman funeral home where the funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. Burial will be made in the Scranton cemetery.

Borders has lived in Scranton for many years during which time he operated both a cafe and the hotel.

He is survived by his wife, a brother Lon, also of Scranton, and his daughter Mrs. Dreher. The funeral sermon will be preached by Rev. Willson of the Scranton Church of Christ.
