Tanya van Cuylenborg, age 18, from Victoria B.C. and her friend Jay Cook, 20, traveled to Washington state to pick up a part for Cook's father. They took a ferry to Port Angeles and were last seen buying a ticket for the Bremerton-Seattle ferry.
Tanya's body was discovered November 24, 1987, on a rural road in Skagit County. She had been shot to death. A couple days later, Cook was found under a bridge outside of Monroe, WA. He had been beaten and strangled. No one has ever been arrested for the slayings.
Snohomish County sheriff's detectives created a deck of cold-case playing cards in 2008 (card shown here) asking anyone with information to contact them.

NEW INFORMATION ADDED MAY 2018:
A 55-year-old man has been arrested in a 31-year-old cold case involving a young couple murdered in Washington state.
Detectives from the Snohomish County and Skagit County Sheriff's Offices arrested William Talbott for the November 1987 murders of 20-year-old Jay Cook and 18-year-old Tanya Van Cuylenborg, the Skagit County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.
Investigators tapped a public genealogy website to match crime scene DNA. The analysis was performed by Parabon, a Virginia company.
