His correct name is David Shaeffer, shown as the locals spelled it "David Shafer" My great-great-grandfather. He was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, on June 22, 1808, the son of Abraham Shaeffer 1778-1833 and Maria Barbara Ream 1783-1846. He was one of at least 8 children including siblings Joel, Ezra, Jacob, Salem, George, and sister Ada.

David married Lydia Heistand 1806-1866 on May 20, 1828. They had at least 10 children. I show Anna and Mariah Shaeffer both born June 11, 1829, so they may be the same individuals. then Abraham Heistand Shaeffer was born in 1831. Louisa Shaeffer-Bradshaw born 1833. Sophia born 1835. Samuel Tobias Shaeffer born 1841. Aaron McCabe 'Cabe' 'McCabe' Shaeffer born 1841. My great-great-grandmother Catharine Margaret Shaeffer-Stansbury was born June 5, 1843 and the last child in my records born in Fairfield, Butler County, Ohio. Sister Vashti D. Shaeffer-Coulson was born 1846 in Lee, Appanoose County, Iowa. Brother (Reverend) Lafayette Shaeffer was born May 6, 1849 in Bellair Township, Appanoose County, Iowa.

His wife Lydia passed away August 13 1866 and is buried in the Shaeffer Cemetery in Walnut City, Appanoose County, Iowa.

Following the passing of Lydia, David Shaeffer then married Adelia R. Stinson-Shaeffer on October 22, 1866. Adelia Ruth passed away January 18, 1912, in Putnam County, Missouri and is buried in the Lemonville Cemetery, Lemons, Putnam, Missouri.
