FUNERAL SERVICES AT NAPLES FOR EARLY PIONEER

Funeral services for John Daniel Karren, 83, who died of a lingering illness Thursday of last week were held at the Naples Ward chapel Sunday at 2:00 p.m. with Bishop LaVell Manwaring conducting.

Singing was under the direction of Orlo Goodrich, ward chorister, "Cast Thy Bread Upon The Waters," "Sometime, Somewhere," "The Flowerland" and "Lead Me Gently Home." was sung by a double mixed quartet composed of May Nielson, Mrs. Ella Goodrich, Mrs. Dezzie Goodrich, Doris Duvall, Frank Goodrich, Lewis Haws, Alva Duvall and Lowe Goodrich, with Elaine Goodrich, accompanist.

The opening prayer was by Bishop Alfred Simper of Davis and the benediction was by Thomas E. Kidd of Ashley ward bishopric. Lewis S. Gardiner, Archie Johnson and George A. Slaugh were the speakers.

Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park with the grave being dedicated by Fuller Remington of the First Ward bishopric. Pallbearers were six grandsons: Thelbert McCarrel, Owen McCarrell, Richard Woodruff, Lawrence Karren, George Karren and Ervin Winward. The High Priests of the ward were honorary pallbearers.

Born December 12, 1855 at Lehi, the son of John D. and Marie Laurence Karren. Mr. Karren experienced a great deal of the early pioneering of Utah and the Uintah Basin in 1879 and the following spring came to Ashley Valley.

Besides being a successful farmer in Ashley Valley Mr. Karren served for twelve years as a school trustee before consolidation, As an active member of the LDS church he served in various capacities in the Sunday School and Mutual Imptovement Association, He was also a faithful ward teacher.

One sister and a brother survive, Kate Dunkley of California and Joseph Karren of Lehi besides the following children: Hugh and Jacob Karren, Norah Watkins, Vernal; McCarrell, Myrtle Woodruffm James H. Karren, Hannah Winward, Merrell Karren, Andy Karren, Bertha Wilcoxsen of Kenilworth; Nellie Gardiner, Erma Hardy of Lapoint.

Joseph Karren Sr., Joseph Karren Jr. and John Woodhouse of Lehi were in attendance at the services.
