CORA CONLEY STIDHAM

Cora's mother, Jeannette Vanderpool Conley, died when she was young and being one of the oldest took over the household. Her father (Wesley Conley) remarried.

Charles and Cora were from Ashland, Kentucky. They eloped when Cora was 15 years old. After they married, her dad said he lost the best farm hand he had.

Charles loved children. He and Cora had 17. After the last baby was born, David, Cora couldn't have any more children and Charles got mad! there were 9 girls (one set of twins) and 8 boys.

To this union were born: Haskel Patrick Stidham, Thurston Thomas Stidham, Lorena Stidham, Lucy Stidham (Gill), Lola Stidham (Shoemaker), Charles Stidham, Annie Ester Stidham (Adams). Allie Ellen Stidham (Stout), Pearl Elizabeth Stidham (Whistman), Gilford Stidham, Ruby Stidham, Eugene Stidham, James Clarence Stidham, Willa Mae Stidham (Blythe), Mary Lou Stidham (Black), Paul Ernest Stidham and David Stidham.

Charles was a farmer but had several other jobs, one of them was an "Undertaker." He always built the house they lived in; nothing more than a 3 bedroom house.

Cora Conley and Charles Stidham were living on Wilson Creek in Carter County, KY when they eloped to Ashland, Boyd County, KY on 17 March 1903 to get married. They lived in Carter County until they moved to Scioto Co. OH. While at home Cora may have helped her mother with the children before she married Charles but Cora's mother didn't die until Nov. 9, 1905. Her father did remarry Nora Hickles on 25 April 1906.
