Alvera Krantz, age 98, of Oneida, Illinois died at 2:50 A.M. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born on October 19, 1910 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Albert L. and Minnie Holmes Peterson. She married Edwin "Bud" Krantz on February 14, 1930 in Ontario Township, Knox County, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 2, 1988.
Surviving are one son, Gayle (Susie) Krantz of Oneida, Illinois; one daughter, Dixie (Robert) Slater of Arlington, Texas; seven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and a son-in-law, Terry Newburgh of Galesburg, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two daughters: Audrey Mayer and Alberta Newburgh; and one son-in-law: Robert Mayer.
She attended elementary school in Waltham, Minnesota and graduated from Oneida High School in Oneida, Illinois. She was a homemaker and a farmer's wife. She was a member of the former Ontario Congregational Church in rural Oneida, Illinois where she sang and played the piano at the church. She was a member of OWL (Ontario Women's League). She was an avid Cub fan.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida, Illinois with Visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M. Pastor Tim Anderson officiating. Burial in Ontario Township Cemetery in rural Oneida, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the United Church of Oneida.
