Caleb Davies was born the son of David and Anna (Maurice) Davies on 11 Mar 1848 in Blaengilfach Farm,Cilrhedyn Parish,Pembrokeshire,South Wales. He moved to London where he worked in a Dry-goods store. He immigrated to America arriving in Chicago in time for the Chicago Fire, after which he moved to Cleveland and built up a considerable dry-goods business. On 27 May 1874 he married Rebecca Corse French, daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Morris (Corse) French. He died 24 Apr 1935 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA. His brother Jonathan Davies also immigrated and worked in dry-goods. He settled in Fort Wayne, Indiana, but died in Chicago.
