The Strickland's were some of the earlier settlers of Wayne County, Mississippi. Simeon was born about 1776 in North Carolina.Jennie and Simeon were my 4th great-grandparents. They married about 1810. He died about 1833. According to the Journals of Benjamin Hawkins, U.S. Indian Agent to the Creeks and other Indian in the southern part of the United States, (1796-1816). He writes in his journal of Simeon Strickland, Simeon was an Indian trader. On one of his visits to the Creek Indian Village, Thlot-lo-gul-gau (known as Fish Pond to the Indian traders) this village is located in what is known now Coosa County, Alabama, Simeon met his future wife, Jane (Jennie) Hale. Jennie was the daughter of Hannah Hale and Chief Far Off.
