The death of Chris KLEIN, which occured at Dyersville last Tuesday after a brief illness removes one of the foremost of the business men of Dubuque county.

Mr KLEIN had reached the age of 66 and was one of the most highly respected citizens of that section. About eight years ago he suffered stroke of paralysis which disabled
him temporarily. He recovered to such an extent that he was able to be around again and due to his energetic nature was able to resume his profession. Deceased was born in Rohl, Prussia, Germany, Aug, 31 1857, and was there fore 66 years of age at the timeof his demise. He immigrated to this country when a young man, settling in Dyersville,where he later married to Mary OFFERMAN of Dubuque.

In his earlier days he was active in civic affairs and served several terms as a member of the city council. He served out the unepired terms of the late mayor J.H. Schroeder, who died while in office. In addition to this he was also secretary of the Dyersville Scheutzen Verein, one of the pioneer social organizations, and was a long time member of the St. Francis branch of the R.C.M.P.S., and of St Joseph court, C.O.F.

Besides his sorrowing wife he is survived by the following children: Theo of Dyersville; Laura, Mrs. Armand HEBERT; Fred at home; Sue, Mrs. Henry COOK, Milwaukee; John, Henry of Mable, Ore; Larry, Eugene, Deloras at home. One daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs Thomas COSGROVE) died four years
ago.


Arrived on the ship "Neckar" Dec. 3, 1883 at the Port of New York. Son of Joachim Klein and Barbara Milbach. Brothers John and Theodore settled in Dubuque.
