Katherine Dorscher, 97, Mandan, died Jan. 29, 2005, in a Mandan nursing home, with her family around her. Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Wednesday, Feb. 2, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Charles Heidt officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Katherine Hintz was born Dec. 26, 1907, on the family farm at Brisbane, the daughter of Albinus and Marianna (Wilhelm) Hintz. She was raised on the family farm in the Brisbane area. Being the oldest of five children, Katherine, and her sister, Theresa, worked together in the fields alongside of their father.
Katherine met Nick Dorscher and they were married on July 21, 1936, at St. Vincent's, south of Carson. They then farmed in the Carson area until moving to Mandan in the 1950's.
She worked at St. Alexius Hospital for many years until retirement. She did 17 years of volunteer work. Katherine will be remembered by so many she touched with her gentle warmth and kindness.
Katherine was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish and the Catholic Daughters.
Katherine leaves behind two daughters and sons-in-law, Leona (Ralph) Vogel, Solen, and Alvina (Raymond) Blotsky, Bismarck; one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond J. (LaVerna) Dorscher, Hazen; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one sister, Theresa Nagel; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nick, who died in 1976; one daughter, Marie; one infant son, James; one brother, John Hintz; and two sisters, Evelyn Klein and Margaret Hintz.
