He was the son of Paul Macy and Bethiah Macy (they were cousins). He married Anna Sweet on 29 September 1786 in Guilford County, North Carolina. In 1796, he and his wife and family migrated to the eastern part of Tennessee and then later removed in 1807 to Miami County, Ohio.
