CHERRYVALE - Merlin Magalvist Bryant, 87, of Thayer, died at 1:05 p.m. Friday at Labette County Medi­cal Center in Parsons, where he had been a patient since Sept. 29.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Thayer Christian Church, with James L. Pel­ley, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Savon­burg under the direction of the Darling and Bums Chapel.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday and at the church after 9 a.m. Wednesday. The family has suggested me­morials to the Thayer Christian Church, and contributions may be left at the funeral home or the church office.
Mr. Bryant was born March 27, 1905, in Peacock to John and Mollie (Whitaker) Bryant. He grew up and attended school in Bon Air, Tenn. He made his home in several cities before moving to Thayer in 1987. lie was employed at the Bryant Nursing Home in Chanute from 1959 until his retirement in 1969.
On Sept. 26, 1959, he married Stella Alberta Ackerman in Llberal and she survives at the home. Also surviving are one daughter, Lucille Nordstrom; three stepdaugh­ters, Bertha Boyer, Cherryvale, Yvonne Booe, Malin, Ore., and Sha­ron North, Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers, Hubert Bryant, Sparta, Tenn., Johnnie Bryant, Anderson, Ind., and Paul Bryant, Orlando, Fla.; one half brother, Oliver Bryant, Pleasant Hill; two sisters, Ruby Da­vis, Anderson, Ind., and Nyleptha Roberts, Sparta, Tenn.; 16 step ­grandchildren and 25 step-great-­grandchildren.
