Howard, age 27, born in Alabama; and his mother, Julia E., age 22, born in Texas. Also living in the household was Ben's younger brother, George A. Howard, age 1, born in Texas.

On November 8, 1898 in Oklahoma City, Benjamin married Mary Magdelene Banner, who was born September 11, 1875 in Texas, daughter of Charles Knox Banner (1846-1905) and Mary Ann Tempy Bates (1851-1938). Benjamin and Mary had eight known children: Nona Deoma Howard, Charles Milburn Howard, Annie Mae Howard, Vertie Valera Howard, Rula Gertrude Howard, Lena Verdean Howard, Wilbur Lee Howard, and Roselle Howard.

Living with them were five children: Nona D. Howard, age 10; Milburn Howard, age 8; Anna M. Howard, age 6; Valera Howard, age 2; and Gertrude Howard, age 4 months; all born in Oklahoma, except Nona who was born in Texas.
