William Clem, son of Samuel and Susan Clem, was born Oct. 12, 1830 in Shenandoah County, Virginia and departed this life Jan. 19th, 1910 at Monroeville, aged 79 yrs. 3 mos and 7 days. He with his father, mother, 4 brothers and 2 sisters came to Monroe township, Allen County, Indiana, in early youth, locating on a farm near the Flat Rock Lutheran church, remaining a permanent resident until departing this life at his late residence just north of town.
On the 28th day of January, 1863, he was united in marriage with Mary J. Graham, daughter of Samuel and Nancy Graham, who only preceded him 15 days to their heavenly home across the Dark River in the Valley of Death, to be at perfect rest, after 47 years of sun shine and shadow in this life.
To this union were born four daughters, Mrs. F.G. House, Mrs. E.P. Gresley, Mrs. E.M. Johnson and Mrs. O.W. VanBuskirk. These with 11 grandchildren; one brother, Samuel Clem; one sister, Mrs. Malinda Martin.
