"On Thursday morning, Mrs. Jane Alexander, wife of Rev. Alexander, colored, while sitting in front of the open fireplace in her house, was seized with a fit and fell into the fire. She was alone at the time, her husband being in the yard. He smelled the fumes of her burning flesh and clothing, and hastened into the room where he had left her, and drew her body out of the fireplace. Medical aid was immediately summoned, but in spite of all that could be done, the unfortunate woman expired at an early hour yesterday morning. It appears that she was subject to fits of some character, and was attacked with one of them whilst alone, and fell into the open fireplace as above stated. The accident was a very sad one."
Aged 45 at the time of her death.
