George Newman, a highly respected citizen, departed this life at Princeville, Ill., July 18, 1913, after an illness dating back two years, the last four months being confined to his bed, and he was a very patient sufferer. At the time of his death he had arrived at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 28 days.

Mr. Newman came to America in the year 1868 and settled in Peoria county, Illinois, where he followed the occupation of farming until twelve years ago, when he moved to Princeville, where he has since resided until his death. He was united in marriage to Jane Rouston on June 24, 1858, and to their union were born twelve children--Anna Grundy of Clarks, Neb., Charles of Dunlap, Ill., Lizzie Hammer of Alta, Ill., Edward, deceased; John of Alta, Ill., Myrtle Fritz of Wyoming, Bessie Stisser of Stark, and Benjamin of Toulon. Molly died in infancy. His wife still survives him. He united with the Episcopal church of England when a boy and which faith he retained during his lifetime. While not joining in church work to a very great extent his desire and ambition was for the right. He leaves a wife circle of friends and neighbors in and around Princeville to mourn his death. He invariably met them with a smile.

The funeral service was held from the Presbyterian church. Sabbath afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Max. B. Wiles. Interment was made at Dickison's cemetery.
