Christian was the son of Anton and Mary (Taverna) Castleberg. He had at least two brothers living in the Nelson, WI area: Martin Castleberg and Jacob George Castleberg.

Christ Castleberg, Resident of Nelson, Buried on Saturday

One of the oldest and most respected citizens of the Nelson community passed away at St. Elizabeth hospital in Wabasha Wednesday morning after a long and lingering illness.

Christ Castleberg, 88, was born June 17, 1865 at Kustris, Graubuenden, Switzerland, son of Anton and Maria Castleberg. He came to this country with his parents when a year old. They settled in Wabasha, Minn., later going to Trout Creek, near Nelson, where he farmed until about 33 years ago when he retired, moving to Nelson where he had built a home.

September 4, 1924, he was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Williams Klitzing. They lived his remaining years in Nelson.

He was widely known as an excellent accordian player. For years he held town offices and served on the Buffalo County board. As a member of the Lutheran church he served his church faithfully.

Surviving are his wife, also one sister, Mrs. Anna Ambuehl of Durand, one brother, Jacob of Alma, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Romeo Busch and one stepson, Paul Klitzing, both of Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. H. Hoffman at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran church in Nelson. Interment was in the Nelson cemetery.

Pallbearers were Martin Ambuehl, Christ Castleberg, Martin Castleberg, Clarence Castleberg, Raymond Castleberg, Walter Castleberg.
