Major W. "Mac" McDowell Sr., 70

Wellsville - Services will be held Wednesday for Major W. "Mac" McDowell Sr., 70, of Campground Road, who died at 1:45 a.m. Monday, April 17, 1995, at City Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in East Liverpool Aug. 15, 1924, a son of the late Joseph M. and Emily Mills McDowell. A resident of Wellsville 32 years, he lived most of his life in the immediate area. He was employed 42 years at the Milligan Hardware Store before retiring in 1994. He served with the U.S. Army in England during World War II. He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1942. He attended the Wellsville Free Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Anna L. Haudenschilt McDowell whom he married July 13, 1950, two daughters, Mrs. Butch (Becky) Davis and Mrs. Ron (Beth) Daniels of Wellsville; five sons, Joseph E. McDowell Sr., Major William McDowell, Jr., George M. McDowell, Michael S. McDowell and James A. McDowell of Wellsville; six sisters, Josephine Chamber, Mrs. Harris (Peggy) Shasteen, Mrs. Dale (Barbara) Krafft Sr., and Mrs. Floyd (Doris) Swiger of East Liverpool, Judith Camioni of California and Mrs. Phillip (Betty) Pelley of Newell; a brother, Thomas McDowell of Panama City, Fla., 18 grandchildren and a great - grandchild. A brother, Sargent "Bud" McDowell, died in 1978. The Rev. John Ewing will conduct the memorial services at 1 p.m. at the Wellsville church. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery. No calling hours are planned. The Dawson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the church.
