Daniel was born to Edward and Martha Spencer Cooley. He enlisted in the military August 1861 and was discharged December 31, 1863, in Richmond, Virginia, a Sergeant, during the Civil War. Daniel's first marriage was to Sarah Frances Smoot on January 11, 1866 in Richmond, Virginia. They adopted two children; a boy Thomas and a girl Mary. After Sarah's death he then married Leonora Frances Smoot on December 21, 1884 in Richmond. The following children were born to this union: Cora Elizabeth, Martha E.,(who changed her name to Bertha E.,) Daniel Henry, Samuel Francis and Leonora S. Daniel was a shoemaker and died of Cardiac Asthma. He was buried on Aug 21, 1899.
