MAYODAN Katie Lemons Black, 86, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville, Va., after two years of declining health.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Mayodan with the Rev. Randy Jessup officiating. Interment will follow in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 19, 1917. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mayodan for more than 70 years and contributed to the founding of the Woodbine Baptist Church. She retired from Washington Mills in 1982 after 52 years of service. She was married to Clifton Reid Black in 1933. He passed away in 1993. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorina Reece, and her devoted son-in-law, William D. Reece, of Danville, Va.; two granddaughters, Angela Reece Harris and husband Larry Harris of Ringgold and Heather Reece Romero and husband David Romero of Charlotte; two great-grandchildren, Brianna Dawn Harris and Reece Parker Harris of Ringgold; two sisters, Eunice L. Adkins of Mayodan and Garnett L. Dalton of Walnut Cove; one brother, Harry Lemons, of Mayodan.

Her parents, two sisters and six brothers predeceased her.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Ray Funeral Home in Madison and at other times they will be at the home of her sister, Eunice Adkins, 603 Roach St., Mayodan.

The family suggests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Mayodan NC, 101 S. First Ave., Mayodan, NC 27027.
