Max Leverett Caudill, 38, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler Caudill of St. Paul, drowned late Friday afternoon, June 23, when he accidentally plunged into a North Loup river sand pit.
The victim, a sand and gravel company operator, was working to clear a logged gravel pump when he lost his balance and plunged into the pit.
Ivan Glines, who had been working with Caudill, went for help. The St. Paul Fire Dept., which answered the summons, tried in vain to revive him by administering artificial respiration for almost an hour.
