Mrs. Betz was the daughter of Owen C. and Mary Rowena Nearhoof of Altoona and was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Betz; and brothers and sisters: Margaret Louise, Elwood, Pauline and James.
She had been a member of Simpson Temple United Parish and the original Temple Lutheran Church, was a longtime member of the original ladies' auxiliary to the bus drivers' organization in Altoona and worked many years at Mason's and Value City.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Lake Worth.
Mrs. Betz is survived by two daughters: Cathy A. Durbin and her husband, Matt, of West Palm Beach and Linda M. Brier of Delray Beach, Fla.; a son, John A. Betz of Atlanta; four grandchildren: Kelli Reeves and her husband, Ryan, of Woodstock, Ga., Christopher Betz and Pamela Betz, both of Atlanta, and Joel "JB" Brier of West Palm Beach; and two great-grandchildren: Grace and Sarah Jane Reeves. She also leaves two sisters: Jean Marie Hillman of South Hampton, N.J., and Edith Campbell of Berlin, N.J.; a brother, Charles Nearhoof of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held in her honor at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 1201 S. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33401, with the Rev. Lisa Sullivan, pastor of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends will be received beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Family and friends of Virginia M. Betz, who joined the Lord Dec. 25, 2008, will gather at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Rose Hill Cemetery for final interment along with a service in celebration of her life. All who shared in the life of Ginny and her family are welcome.
