HENRY CARSTENSEN
Henry Carstensen of Hale Township was born on March 28th, 1868 at Husum, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In the spring of 1884 he emigrated to the United States, coming to Jones county, Iowa, where he has resided ever since, making Jones county his permanent home to the time of his death, which occurred on Monday morning, May 22, 1928, at 8:20 o'clock, at the age of sixty years, two months, and three days,.

On February 24th, 1898 he was united in marriage to Anna Petersen of this place. To this union were born five children, who survive, with their mother, to mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father: Elsie, Hilda, John and Lewis at home and Mathilda who is married to Arthur Ahrendsen and resides in the home neighborhood.

Besides these he leaves two brothers and two sisters: Thomas of Oxford Junction August and Mrs. P.S. Jansen of Wyoming, and Mrs. P.M. Friedrichsen of Center Junction, to mourn his loss.

By the death of Henry Carstensen a loving father, true husband, a loyal citizen and noble man has been removed. To know Mr. Carstensen was to love and admire him. His spirit has left the body yet will his good deeds, his noble life live after him, He was a plain man, straight forward simple and direct in thought word and deed

Funeral services were held at the residence on Thursday afternoon, May 31st,conducted by Rev. Wohlgemuth of Oxford Junction. The body was laid to rest in the beautiful Mayflower cemetery at Oxford jct.
