Thos. Carstensen Dies following Stroke

Thomas C Carstensen, aged 75, well known and respected citizen died Sunday morning at his home, following a stroke suffered Thursday of last week. Funeral services were Wednesday at 1:30 P.M. at the Methodist church, with Rev. H. Graceing of Wyoming in charge. Burial was in Mayflower cemetery.

Casket bearers were Marvin and Hans Petersen, Clare Westphal, Herman, Martin and John Carstensen. Flower girls were Shirley Smith, Audrey and Rita Rae Ritze, Betty Pegorek and Lois Benhart. Singers included Mrs. Jeanette Russell of Clarence, Miss Earlene Huston and Mrs. Gertrude Sacora accompanied by Mrs. Lillian Bees.

Mr. Carstensen was born in Husum,. Germany, Sept 29, 1870 and came to American when 16 years of age. He was married to Margaretha Ahrendsen in 1898 and they farmed near Center Junction and in the vicinity of Oxford junction until 1936, when they retired and moved with their family to Oxford Junction, where he resided until his death.

Surviving are his wife, three sons, John of Oxford junction, Albert of Clarence, Henry of Anamosa, four daughters, Mrs. Fed Pegorek and Mrs. Lewis Benhart of Oxford Junction, Mrs. Clara Ritze of Rock Island, Ill. and Mrs. L.A. Smith of Edridge, a brother August Carstensen of Wyoming and nineteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
