BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Frances is identified in the will of her husband, Thomas Wells of Evesham, 9 Feb 1637, no probate act, in which he gives to his "brothers" John Albright and Richard Albright, proved sons of Richard Albright of Alcester (Consistory Court of Worcester, orig wills, 1637, #145 [FHL #098054]). Date and place of birth are approximations. MAR #1: All Saints, Evesham par reg, as cited in Douglas Richardson, "Wells and Albright," NEHGR, 146(1992):298 (FHL #974 B2ne).

More about: About wife, Frances Albright Wells Coleman and Thomas Coleman

No further listing of any of these Welles has been found in Evesham records. Efforts to equate the widow Frances Wells's family in England with the one in New England yielded only circumstantial evidence to support the contention until the inventory of Richard Albright's estate was located in which are named "Thomas Coalman's children". Among other things, this shows that Frances (Albright) Welles married Thomas Coleman before March, 1638/9 (date of the inventory of her brother's estate), or about two years after the death of her husband Thomas Welles and not in Connecticut as had previously been presumed.

Name: The American Genealogist, Vol 28, pp 227-235, speaks of the wife of Thomas Welles. Earlier research, notably Sheldon's History of Deerfield, says that there was a Hugh Welles, who came over on the ship "Globe" in 1635 with his wife Frances Belcher. But there is no such ship record.

Note: There was a Hugh Welles, but he was married to Mary Rusco, and is not in this line. The reference which speaks of Frances Albright vs. Belcher is The New England Historical and Genealogical Register, vol. 146 (Jan 1992), pages 28 thru 34. Several wills are quoted. It is certain that the first husband of Frances Albright was our Thomas Welles. After Thomas died (Will dated 9 Feb 1637), Frances married Thomas Coleman, with whom, she came to America in 1639.
