He took his own life by hanging after suffering from depression following the death of his fiancée Natasha Collins.
∼Actor, Television Personality. He is best known to British television audiences for his role the King on the children's program, "I See It Saw It" from 1999 to 2001, and as a TV presenter on the art series, "SMart" from 1994 to 2008. Born Mark Warwick Fordham Speight in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England, he studied at Tettenhall College and Regis School in Wolverhampton, and soon went onto obtain a degree in commercial and graphic art. After graduation he decided to try acting after hearing about auditions for a presenter for a children's television series called "SMart." The producers and creators of the show liked Speight and he was hired on the spot. The series premiered in 1994 and would run a total of 14 years with Speight as host. As his fame rose he was also offered the starring role of "Scratchy" in the Bafta-nominated ITV Saturday morning show "Scratchy & Co", which ran from 1995 to 1998. His other TV work included appearances on "Blue Peter", "The Heaven And Earth Show", "The Saturday Show", "This Morning", "Smarteenies", "Insides Out", "Celebrity Wrestling", "Beat The Cyborgs", "To Me, To You!", and as The Abominable No Man in "Timmy Towers." He was also seen in the Discovery Channel's "History Busters", and performed in pantomime and on stage in "Cinderella." He later toured regularly with his Speight of the Art workshops for children, and was President of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. In his personal life, he was engaged to actress and model Natasha Collins whom he had met on the set of "I See It I Saw It" in 1999. On the night of January 3, 2008, after two full days of drinking wine and vodka, taking sleeping pills, and doing cocaine with Speight, Collins awoke and went to have a bath. She was found deceased the next morning in her bath by her fiancee. Speight was arrested on a charge of murder and supplying class A drugs. After an inquest and an extended investigation into the case by Scotland Yard he was later freed of all charges. On April 2, 2008, the coroner listed Natasha Collins' official cause of death as death by misadventure, due to the cocaine in her system and the burns from the scalding hot bath water that covered 60% of her body. On April 8, Speight disappeared. His body was found in the Paddington Rail Station a week later on April 13. His death was being listed as suspicious but the investigation is still ongoing.
