He was born May 2, 1878, in Perry Township, a son of the late William and Elizabeth Taylor Haines. He was a blacksmith and was well known in the community. He was a member of the Kirby Methodist Church. His first wife, Bertha Hickman Haines, died 18 years ago. His second wife, Ora Lee Cooke Haines survives.
Also surviving are two children by his first marriage, Edith Haines, and Ralph (Edna) Haines, both of Kirby; two grandsons, and five sisters, Mrs. Jesse (Ida) Orndoff, of New Freeport; Mrs. Garfield (Alice) Fordyce, of New Salem; Mrs. Floyd (Mary) Lemley, of Waynesburg; Mrs. Roy (Eva) Strosnider, of Poland; and Mrs. Joseph (Lona) Brown, of Amity.
