Son of Samuel Blair Sr. (1743-1827) and Mary (Eddy) Blair (1762-1841). Samuel was a boy when the family moved from Pennsylvania to Sodus, New York sometime between 1805-1819. Samuel married Edilda Randall in Sodus on October 13, 1823 and their first 6 chldren were born there. Samuel worked as a fine carpenter and joiner and he moved his family to Michigan about 1841, living first in Salem and then Troy before settling in Northville.
