John was the sixth of seven children born to Albert L. and Elizabeth Anna (Hoffman) Stout. He married Ethel Castile in 1928 and they were the parents of one daughter: Virginia.

Rites Tuesday for John Stout

John J. Stout, 86, died this morning at the Jefferson County Hospital.
He was born July 9, 1900 at Round Prairie Township, the son of Albert and Elizabeth Huffman Stout. He was a resident of Van Buren and Jefferson counties most of his life.
He attended Iowa State College at Ames. Stout married Ethel Castile Feb. 4, 1928. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge and Shriners.
Stout was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Schoonover Stanhope.
Stout was named county engineer for Van Buren County in 1929 and in 1935 he took over as county engineer for Jefferson County. He resigned in 1946 to go into business of himself founding the Triangle Construction Company, which he operated for a number of years.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Lingwall officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday with visitation to follow until 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the cancer fund.
