A funeral Liturgy for Wilson E. Stemm, D.M.D., 93, of New Albany, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Albany, with interment in the church cemetery. He died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.
He was born in Corydon on May 12, 1916, to the late Frank and Susan Habermel Stemm. He was the widower of his beloved wife of 65 years, Ella Mae Rhiel Stemm. He was a wonderful husband and father, and enjoyed life to the utmost. He practiced dentistry for some 42 years at Stemm Dentistry on East Spring Street in New Albany, where his son, Wilson Stephen Stemm, D.M.D. now practices, and where his grandson, Wilson Daniel Stemm, D.M.D., will soon be practicing. He was a major in the Army Air Corps during World War II, a member of Hobart Beach Post 1693 in New Albany, a fourth degree member of the Cardinal Ritter Knights of Columbus, and lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Albany.
Survivors include his children, Victoria "Vicky" Lopp and her husband, Gary E., of New Albany, and Wilson Stephen Stemm, D.M.D., and his wife, Dorothy A., of Elizabeth; sister, Jean Poling of Phillippi, W. Va.; grandchildren, Erika and Andrea Lopp, Wilson Stemm III and his wife, Rebekah, Stephanie Bratcher and her husband, Brandon, Christine Kraft, Ph.D., and her husband, Nicholas, and Heidi Mae Vix and her husband, Alex; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Madeline, Wilson IV, Craig, and Abigail.
Visitation will be at Kraft Funeral Service, Spring Street Chapel, New Albany, from 2 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m., today, and after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Albany.
