Belinda was the daughter of Joseph Shatto who was one of the first Shattos to leave Pennsylvania and move to Trumbull County, Ohio, in the mid 1810's. Her mother was her father's third wife who also was the daughter of his second wife. Joseph died in 1841; Belinda in 1850 was living with a distant cousin, Samuel Barnheisel in Trumbull County, Ohio.
On marriage to Abasalom Shull she was part of a move to Minnesota in the late 1840's into the 1860's with four of her Shatto brothers: Simon "Louis", David, Frederick who became a businessman in Northfield and later moved to San Antonio, and Charles W who became a prominent businessman in Minneapolis and a rancher. Like their father, they continued to push the frontier envelope.
Belinda and Absalom's first three children died young. By 1880 they had divorced, she living in Northfield and Absalom in Dakota County. He remarried to Phoebe Jane Bloxham and had one more son. He died in 1888. Belinda never remarried.
