John Stockton, born about 1719, was a son of Robert and Isabel Stockton. It appears that John was probably born in England. The Robert and Isabel Stockton family settled in Chester County and later Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. John Stockton moved to Cecil County, Maryland, and married Elizabeth Aldredge on 5 Nov 1745 at St. Stephens (Episcopal) Church (Cecil County, Maryland). John Stockton appears to have died in 1783.
John and Elizabeth (nee Alredge) Stockton were the parents of Brig. Gen. John Stockton (1754-1822). He married Ann Griffith / Griffin. They were the parents of Thomas Stockton (1781-1846), who was a Governor of Delaware.
