Jacob, born in Canada, is the 4th child of (11) born to Samuel Lown and Eleanor Hiler. He married Delilah Farmer, daughter of Thomas Manson Farmer; they had (2) children. Jacob provided well for his family; had a Farm house on acreage that he farmed and later a town house in Memphis, where they lived during the school year while daughter Ada attended school, earning her teaching degree. The family attended church regularly and wife Delilah was active in the community.

OBITUARY: February 1910
Note: The following copied (by others) from scrapbook belonging to Miss Lorraine Burman of Memphis, Michigan by/for Mrs Gordon W. Harrison of Sharon, Pa. (in 1972) Gordon Harrison is son of Ada Lown (DeForest) Harrison, Grandson of Jacob Lown.

"Jacob died at his home (on farm) 1-1/4 miles west of this village, Friday, February 25, 1910, after a brief illness, aged 70 years, 8 months and 4 days. He was born at Dumfries, Canada, June 21, 1839 and was fourth of a family of eleven children. When eight years old, he came with his parents to Michigan, settling near Riley Center.

April 23, 1862, Mr Lown was married to Delilah Farmer of Ray Township. Two children were born to them, Albert Lown of Portland, Oregon and Mrs Ada (Lown) DeForest of this place.

Mr Lown was seemingly a strong, active and healthy man, but for some time had been in poor health, but made little complaint, although he must have suffered. His last illness was of short duration and he was a great sufferer the last week of this life. He died of cancer near the stomach.

The funeral was held from his late home, Friday afternoon. Rev Henry Nandervis, a former Pastor of the M. E. Church, officiating, assisted by Rev W. C. McAlister, and the remains were laid to rest in the Memphis Cemetery.

Besides the immediate family, there are left to mourn his death, one brother, Mr Walter Lown, Riley Center and two sisters, Mrs Margaret Arnold of Riley Center and Mrs William Brown (Eleanor) of Detroit, also a host of friends and neighbors.

Card of Thanks: We desire to thank our many friends and neighbors for their sympathy and acts of kindness during the illness and death of our husband and father and for the beautiful floral offerings. Mrs Delilah Lown, Mrs Ada Deforest."
