Daniel Goodwin Ames was the eldest of three sons born to Jacob Ames (1834-1882) and his first wife Mary Ellen Goodwin (ca. 1834-1864) of Lynn, Essex Co., MA. His father was a teamster, a trade Daniel followed. On July 11, 1877 in Lynn, Daniel married Susan O. Wilkinson (1858-1900). The couple had four children: Leon Ross (b. 1878), Albert (b. 1879), Oakes (b. 1884), and Estella (b. 1888). Sadly, Oakes died of enteritis at 17 months of age. After his wife's death in 1900, Daniel worked as a hired man for a private family in Lynn. He later married as his second wife a woman named Olive and lived in Chicago, IL. At the time of his death at age 73, he worked as a night cashier for a taxi cab company.
