Ernest R. Pinkerton, 80, of Rt. 3, St. Marys, died Saturday evening at St.Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.

Born in Pleasants County, he was the son of the late George and Sarah Kelly Pinkerton Mathers. He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways.

Surviving are two sons, Clayton Bill of St Marys and Carl Woody of Centerburg, Ohio; one daughter- Donna Greathouse, Spencer, WV.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilly Malone Pinkerton, in 1978; Sons- Earnest R Pinkerton Jr.(deceased), Delbert E. Pinkerton (deceased), Charles W. Pinkerton (deceased) one daughter, Ruth Schmidt of Aurora, O.(deceased), and a step-daughter, Ernestine Williams of Pomeroy, O.(deceased); and three brothers- George, Leonard and Clarence Pinkerton.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Willow Island Baptist Church, Willow Island. The Rev. Harold Tracewell officiated, with burial in the Willow Island Cemetery.

The Ruttencutter Funeral Home in St. Marys was in charge of arrangements.
