Mrs. Catherine E. Helm, 80, life long resident of Adams County, died at her home, 304 Marshall street, at 7:30 Tuesday evening of complications. Mrs. Helm had been ailing for the past 2 years and was bedfast since March 5, 1931.
Mrs. Helm was a well known Decatur woman and during her youth was active in the Missionary Society work of the Methodist Episcopal church, the W.R.C. of which she was a charter member, and the Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Helm was born in Adams County, May 6, 1850, the daughter of Daniel and Anna Congleton, both deceased. On January 1, 1874 she was united in marriage to Joseph Helm who preceded her in death in 1924. Since her marriage she resided on Marshall street.
Surviving are three children: Mrs. Lulu Swearingen, Decatur; Mrs. India Partlow, of Richmond; and William Helm of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Five children preceded her in death. They are Harry Helm, Forest Helm, and Gladys Helm and two who died in infancy (including Anna T died 2 yrs in 1884).
Friends may view the body at the home after seven o'clock tonight until the time of the funeral. There will be no viewing at the church.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at three o'clock at the home and at 3:15 o'clock at the Methodist Episcopal church, where the deceased was a devoted member for many years. Rev. B.H. Franklin will officiate and internment will be in the Decatur Cemetery.
