Jacob C. Hartman, 91-year-old lifelong resident of Monroe County, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Will Arthur, Kinser pike. He had been ill several weeks, suffering from complications brought on by advanced age.

For many years, Mr. Hartman conducted a gardening business in the northwest part of the city in what was then known as Maple Heights. Prior to taking up that work, he had been a plasterer by trade. He was born in this county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hartman. He was a member of the Christian church.

Since the death of his wife, Catherine, a little more than a year ago, Mr. Hartman had made his home with his daughter.

The survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Effie Arthur, Mrs. Hazel Hamm, both of Rural Route One, Mrs. Pearl Bush of this city and Mrs. Leatha Chandler of Chicago; three sons, Charles Hartman of this city, John of Indianapolis and Dewey Hartman of Smithville, and two half brothers, John and George Hartman, both of this city.

Funeral services were held at the Day chapel at 2:30 o’clock this afternoon and were conducted by Elder A. W. Harvey. The music was in charge of Mrs. Guy Davis and Mrs. Winfred Matthews.

Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park, with Clifford Hamm, Will Arthur, Bernard Hartman, Robert Hartman, Carl Stewart and Otis Wood serving as pallbearers. Flower bearers were Mary Hartman, Hazel Baugh, Jane, Rebecca and Miriam Lamb and Betty Albertson.
