One of four children of Mary & Tony, slaves of Robert Waid and Nancy Welch Lackey. Even though the location of these graves have been know and kept up for years, the names of three of the children are not know. Little Joe was the exception. He was the last of the family to die. He went in search for cattle one day, and was caught in a violent storm. He was fatally killed in the storm. Searcher later found his body with all the clothing stipped from his body. The mountain where he was found became known as Naked Joe Mountain. Later when application was made for a post office near the location, the name of Naked Joe was submitted, and the postal department changed it to Old Joe. The Post Office, Mountain, and surrounding community became known as Old Joe and Old Joe Mountain as a lasting memorial to Little Joe.

The birthdate is unknown, and death date was around 1863.
