Upon his discharge from the Marine Corps he attended Earlham College in Richmond, IN, and the University of Arkansas. It was during this time that he became employed as a Right of Way Agent and began a longtime association with the pipeline and public utility industries. Not only did he work for various pipeline companies but also Indiana Bell Telephone Co. and Hoosier Energy. During his years of purchasing right of way, he also was active in professional rodeos throughout the Southwest, oftentimes on the weekends.
Charles was a member the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the American Right of Way Association and the Monroe County Saddle Club.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis J. (Davis) Cheesman of Harrodsburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Nicholas and Terri Cheesman of Boonville, IN, and Pat and Brenda Cheesman of Mt. Carmel, IL; seven grandchildren, Nicole (David) Blackwell, Nicholas (Florencia) Cheesman, Natalie (Ben) Wolfe, Krista Peach, Michael (Kirby) Cheesman, Andrew Cheesman and Daniel Cheesman; eleven great-grandchildren, Marina, Addisyn and Maddox Blackwell, Sophie, Luli and Catalina Cheesman, Colin and Carter Wolfe and Haley, Anthony and Miley Peach.
He was preceded in death by one son, Benjamin Cheesman; one sister, Betty Johnson; and two brothers; Dallas Cheesman and Jim Cheesman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Road 37. Interment will be at Clover Hill Cemetery where the Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites.
