ANNE PITTMAN

Anne "Annie" Pittman, 94, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Las Vegas, where she had lived for five years. Annie was born Jan. 28, 1915, in Farrell, Pa.

Her younger working years were spent up and down the east coast, following the seasonal migrations from New York to Miami and in Chicago.

In 1939, she settled in Nevada, where she met her future husband, Joe Pittman when they both worked at the Boulder Dam Hotel in Boulder City, where Annie was a waitress.

Annie is survived by her daughters, Pattie Cortez and Jo Anne Shields; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Annie was a loving mother who devoted her life to creating a magical childhood for her girls. She spent endless hours baking, cooking, reading and making holidays an unforgettable event.

Her home was a safe haven for her family and their friends. There was an abundance of food for whoever walked through the door and birthday cakes were a specialty.

Grandchildren were welcomed with open arms. To them she was a homework tutor, paper route driver and a sports fan for those kids involved in wrestling, football, basketball and tennis. She helped them through college and weddings and stayed involved as each of the great-grandchildren arrived. Again, it was cookies to classrooms on holidays, plays, more baseball and soccer games, and over-the-top birthday parties; to say nothing about playing the slot machine at grandma's house.

Annie was involved with the community through the various elementary and middle school PTAs, Nevada Dance and Garden Club.

There will be a family graveside service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Boulder City Cemetery Pavilion, 501 Adams Blvd., in Boulder City. Boulder City Family Mortuary handled the arrangements.
