   Edmund Knight immigrated from England to the United States with his father, step mother and some siblings when Edmund was about 18 years old; they arrived in New York City on the "Victoria" in September of 1843 and made their way to Indiana. Edmund's oldest sibling, Elizabeth 'Elzia' Knight Dewey, may had died in April of that year in New Albany, Floyd County.
   In 1845 Edmund married Lydia Ann Combs in Harrison County, Indiana. The 1850 census enumerated him in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana.
   In 1856 his father wrote the following about Edmund "...Edmund (though a cripple) is very industrious and perservering. He has bought himself a comfortable brick house and lot with room to build another house upon with stablings and so forth for his horses and he has as much hire work as he can doo - - With an apparent economical wife and five children, four of whom come to Esther's school and are bright intelligent children."
   In 1860 Edmund's family was living in Black Township, Posey County where Edmund died in 1865 at about 39 years of age. Edmund was the father of at least 9 children:

   Lyida 'Jane' Knight Bottomley (1846-1885)
   James Knight (1848-aft1880)
   David Thomas Knight (1850-1922)
   Joseph Knight (1852-1926)
   Eliza Knight (1854-?)
   Edmond W. Knight ((1857-1876)
   Richard Ebenezar Knight (1860-1934)
