She married James Jackson West, son of Zackwell and Abigail (Powell) West on 28 Jan 1862 in Wirt County, West Virginia. The couple had no children.
In 1910, while living in Kahoka, Missouri and after having completing a tour of the Southwest and Far Northwest of the U.S., Harriet wrote a travelogue detailing their adventures entitled, "The Life and Travels of Harriet C. West".
About 1870, they moved to Clark County, Missouri where James died on 24 Feb 1911. His body was transferred to West Virginia for burial. In 1919, while residing in Florida, Harriet passed away.
In her will, she left part of her estate to the public schools of Parkersburg, W. VA. These scholarships known as "the J. J. West and Harriet Cline West Awards". She also left part of her estate to Morris Harvey College now the University of Charleston.

WEST - Mrs. Harriet C. West of Parkersburg, W. Va., widow of the late J. J. West, for many years residents of Kahoka, died at Jacksonville, Florida, June 19, 1919. The "Florida Times Union" of June 20th has the following:
"Mrs. Harriet C. West of Parkersburg, W. Va., died in the city yesterday morning. Mrs. West was past worthy matron of the Parkersburg chapter of the Eastern Star. The body was forwarded to Parkersburg last night. The funeral will take place upon arrival. Moulton & Kyle had charge of arrangements."
