Mr. Melvin Lee, aka "The Ice Man" was born in Darlington, South Carolina on August 18, 1949. He is preceded in death by his father, Mr. Roy Lee, Sr. (1973), and mother, Mrs. Lessie Mae Lee (2001); two brothers, Roy Lee, Jr. (1993) and Nathan Lee (1998). Melvin was educated in Duval County public schools, graduating from Stanton Vocational School in 1968. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served his country fighting in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1974 and was discharged with honors. After his release from the Military, he moved with his family to Gary, Indiana and was employed by the Budd Plant/Ford Motor Company. In 1987 Melvin had an unfortunate accident that left him a Quadriplegic. He lived a full, happy life under the tender, loving care of his sister, Edith Barner. On November 9, 2006 Melvin became ill, God called him home to rest on November 13, 2006. Melvin leaves to cherish his memories, three daughters, Juanita Wilkerson, Michelle Fryer (Errick) and Tekina Lee (U.S. Navy, Peddleton, California); seven grandchildren, Errick III, Erika, Kyonia, Kyon, Davonte, Deonte and Deja-nique Fryer; one brother, Rexel Lee; six sisters, Naomi Suber, Ann White, both of Winston Salem, North Corolina, Edith Barner (Claude), Archiepheen Ulmer, Chellie McTeer and Lois Scott (Robin); a devoted and faithful cousin, Terry Jacobs; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends. Melvin's family visitation to greet friends will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Friday, November 17, 2006 at Hardage-Giddens Main Street Chapel (4315 Main St.) Jacksonville, FL. 32206. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Philadelphia Baptist Church (5577 Moncrief Rd.) Jacksonville, FL. with Rev. Harold LeGree officiating. Services will conclude at the church with the United States Marines honor guards.
