Lula was the daughter of Lemuel Lorenzo Mason and Mary Virginia McCan. Lemuel fought in the Civil War. Lula and several siblings came to Texas from Oklahoma: Royal McCan Mason, Susie Inez Mason Higgins & Clinton Rixford Mason. She had one brother who remained in Oklahoma, Clayton Ralston Mason. Lula's parents are buried in Pottowatomie Co, OK. Lula was the second wife of Edward Otis Whitney. Ed was a bricklayer in the Dallas Area and worked on many of the old Dallas buildings.
